Whole Lotta Soccer: We are Back! (Organized Pick-Up Soccer& Spring/Summer League)

Hi Everyone,
We bring good news! Organized soccer in Ithaca is back starting this Saturday April 17 & Sunday April 18.
It’s been a minute, a whole lotta minute, since we all played the beautiful game as a group. A lot of folks have not played in over a year since the big bad covid19 monster hit. And many more have not kicked any ball since last Fall. The pandemic has taken an immense toll on the physical, emotional, mental and financial well-being of folks. We’ve taken the best shot of Covid19, but we are still here. It’s time to turn the page and start playing soccer again. It’s about time especially as the vast majority of folks have been vaccinated.

Consequently, starting this Saturday April 17 @ 10am and Sunday April 18 @ 10am, we will have organized pick-up games at Cass Park (for both coed & over 30) in readiness for the Guthrie Tournament and Spring/Summer league. It’s only appropriate and fair that we begin with organized pick-up so folks can begin to find their feet as we have not played in a long time.

Spread the word! We’ll have pick-up soccer at Cass Park for coed and O-30 this Saturday April 17 and Sunday April 18 @ 10am.
See you at Cass Park this Saturday & Sunday @ 10am.

Please note that the health and safety of every player is our top priority. In keeping with NYS Guidelines,

1. Players will be required to wear face masks and stick to 6ft social distancing rules while on the sidelines.

2. We expect and demand that players who are sick to stay home and not show up for games. No player should attend a game if not feeling well, has a fever, or is currently under quarantine. Do not play if a player is exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus as identified by the CDC.

3. IUSC will provide hand sanitizers and (sanitized) soccer balls at the league games. We urge everyone to continue to refrain from the traditional pre- and post-game handshakes. We also urge players to not engage in the standard group celebration of goals.

Update on Summer League 2020

Team Captains & Players,
We hope you are well and managing to stay fit during this challenging times. Just wanted to give you an update with respect to summer league.

As you’re probably aware, NY State is implementing a phased re-opening which started on May 15 as cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 is on the decline. We hope this downward trajectory will continue for the state as a whole and for the Southern Tier region in particular. The key point we want to communicate is that sports leagues fall under “Recreation” and is therefore in Phase 4 of the NY Forward plan. We’ve been in contact with park officials (City & State) who in turn have been in regular consultation with the TCHD. From all indications, Phase 4 of NY Forward plan is not expected to be initiated until July at the earliest for the Southern Tier region.

Be that as it may, please be informed we are making arrangements to have a summer league and we’ve already submitted a plan to the City & NYS Park officials. We’ll share this plan with everyone in due course. Just know that the health and safety of every player remains uppermost in our priority and we can have a summer league in a responsible manner that is both safe & fun.

We miss you all and look forward to seeing you soon.
