Whole Lotta Soccer: We are Back! (Organized Pick-Up Soccer& Spring/Summer League)

Hi Everyone,
We bring good news! Organized soccer in Ithaca is back starting this Saturday April 17 & Sunday April 18.
It’s been a minute, a whole lotta minute, since we all played the beautiful game as a group. A lot of folks have not played in over a year since the big bad covid19 monster hit. And many more have not kicked any ball since last Fall. The pandemic has taken an immense toll on the physical, emotional, mental and financial well-being of folks. We’ve taken the best shot of Covid19, but we are still here. It’s time to turn the page and start playing soccer again. It’s about time especially as the vast majority of folks have been vaccinated.

Consequently, starting this Saturday April 17 @ 10am and Sunday April 18 @ 10am, we will have organized pick-up games at Cass Park (for both coed & over 30) in readiness for the Guthrie Tournament and Spring/Summer league. It’s only appropriate and fair that we begin with organized pick-up so folks can begin to find their feet as we have not played in a long time.

Spread the word! We’ll have pick-up soccer at Cass Park for coed and O-30 this Saturday April 17 and Sunday April 18 @ 10am.
See you at Cass Park this Saturday & Sunday @ 10am.

IUSC Fall League Registration

A big thank you to all the teams/players who participated in the just ended summer league. The summer league, as you all must have heard, went very well. No one’s health or safety was compromised. The heath and safety of all players remain our top priority. We expect the same for the Fall League.

And now, the moment you’ve been asking for….

Fall League Registration

Registration for the IUSC 2020 Fall League is open through Friday Sept. 4. We will offer Open, Coed, and Over-30 leagues. Team fee is $1,000 for Coed, $500 for Over-30, and $500 for Open. You can send along a request for which Coed division you want to be in, but please remember that IUSC has the final say on classification to maintain competitive balance for the overall best interest of teams and the league as a whole.

Open is 7-on-7 and will be played on the smaller fields at Cass Park and Union Field that are traditionally used for Over-30 — two 25-minutes halves with most games on Sundays. Coed remains on the full field under the same format, with the majority of games on Saturdays. Each team will get 10 games starting as early as Wednesday, Sept. 9 and running until Nov. 7. In all divisions, there will be some form of playoffs … though we will have to look at the team registry upon completion to figure out what the best option is.

Please note that the health and safety of every player is our top priority. In keeping with NYS Guidelines,

1. Players will be required to wear face masks and stick to 6ft social distancing rules while on the sidelines.

2. We expect and demand that players who are sick to stay home and not show up for games. No player should attend a game if not feeling well, has a fever, or is currently under quarantine. Do not play if a player is exhibiting symptoms of the coronavirus as identified by the CDC.

3. IUSC will provide hand sanitizers and (sanitized) soccer balls at the league games. We urge everyone to continue to refrain from the traditional pre- and post-game handshakes. We also urge players to not engage in the standard group celebration of goals.

Update on Summer League 2020

Team Captains & Players,
We hope you are well and managing to stay fit during this challenging times. Just wanted to give you an update with respect to summer league.

As you’re probably aware, NY State is implementing a phased re-opening which started on May 15 as cases of the coronavirus COVID-19 is on the decline. We hope this downward trajectory will continue for the state as a whole and for the Southern Tier region in particular. The key point we want to communicate is that sports leagues fall under “Recreation” and is therefore in Phase 4 of the NY Forward plan. We’ve been in contact with park officials (City & State) who in turn have been in regular consultation with the TCHD. From all indications, Phase 4 of NY Forward plan is not expected to be initiated until July at the earliest for the Southern Tier region.

Be that as it may, please be informed we are making arrangements to have a summer league and we’ve already submitted a plan to the City & NYS Park officials. We’ll share this plan with everyone in due course. Just know that the health and safety of every player remains uppermost in our priority and we can have a summer league in a responsible manner that is both safe & fun.

We miss you all and look forward to seeing you soon.

Suspension of League Games for 2 Weeks

To Our Valued Soccer Community Members,

IUSC would like to notify all teams and players that effective immediately we are suspending all league games at the indoor rink/field for 2 weeks as a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. In our previous statement, we noted we are monitoring this rapidly changing COVID-19 situation on an hourly basis. Today the Tompkins County Health department announced the first confirmed case of corona virus in the area. Knowing that we have low testing regime in this country, having just one case in the county, doesn’t provide any comfort. The health, safety and well-being of all the players remain of paramount importance to us. In these uncertain times, we feel we have a moral and community-minded obligation to keep the spread of the novel virus contained. We recognize that we are co-dependent on one another, that how we behave dramatically impacts the health of others, and that now is the time to practice some level of social distancing to stem the virus.

Consequently, we are suspending all indoor league games at the rink for two weeks. We also expect and request the rink to utilize this break in games to disinfect all the surfaces at the facility to assure everyone’s safety and peace of mind.
We appreciate the feedback we received from members of the soccer community. We urge everyone to comply with CDC/WHO guidelines on best practices/protocols to combat the virus. Together, we’ll rise to the occasion of confronting and overcoming the difficult challenges brought on by this COVID-19 outbreak.
Stay safe. All the best.
